The Technology Leaders group held our April 16 meeting, led by William Brassington, CEO of Relevante, and it turned into one of the more honest and timely conversations we’ve had.
The topic was: How do you provide career guidance to your college-age children, given the current state of the technology sector?
With the impact of AI on careers still evolving, one thing is clear—traditional career paths are becoming less certain. The group spoke openly about how we’re advising our own kids as they choose majors and think about their futures.

A few themes stood out:
- The importance of adaptability over narrow specialization
- Renewed interest in liberal arts and broad-based thinking
- The value of studying abroad and gaining diverse perspectives
- And the continued importance of communication skills and the ability to sell ideas
Technology will continue to change, but the fundamentals—working well with others and creating value—remain constant
